Final Reflection on project

This project was far more challenging than my article for Digital Arts. Having less skills in video making compared to writing, I faced a couple of obstacles that took up a lot of my time. I already discussed the issues faced with the various softwares and copyright free footage in week 6. In the rest of the 4 weeks I worked on shooting my own footage and adding it to the video, further research and finishing of the project. I did not encounter major problems with these tasks, except for the interview which I think could have been better if done in a closed area, but the circumstances wouldn't allow this. The option of performing an online interview could have solved the problem of the wind noise but the quality of the footage would have been lower (being virtual). Primary research went well,  I received positive responses and had little to improve. The major problem I came across was during week, as I was preparing my website for final submission. I had problems trying to up

Website- Changes applied for project presentation

Steps taken to modify website: 1. Added a new subpage to the 'Portfolio' page that will be used to display the project (named it informative video) 2. Portfolio page→Add button → Lists & Grids - I selected the same grid template as the previous project customized it by writing my own title and introduction  -I double clicked on the text to choose the highlight effect colour -I changed the image with an image shot by me ↓ (see process down) -I used the font Palatino Linotype This is the raw image I shot for the preview of the project I used the tools of Wix to modify the image:  Cropped image,  Increased brightness, decreased temperature, increased exposure, increased sharpness and used vignette Final image uploaded:  3. I used the Parallax effect on the home background strip by pressing 'Change Strip Background' → settings → parallax The previous website design only had the 'About me'

Audio adjustment post-survey

I made changes to the audio of the video after receiving survey responses saying the audio was quite low. The volume of the audio was already placed at the maximum (400). So I re-recorded the whole audio with a higher voice. See the difference before and after.

Primary research on video- what do people think about my work?

It's the 8th week of this online academic term and the deadline for my assignment is approaching. I have completed my video and in order to identify the weaknesses of the video and make changes before submission, I asked a couple of people to watch the video and respond to a survey about it.  I tried to cover most of the aspects of the video and included a few open answer questions to make sure the participants could express clear and open opinions instead of just making them choose between a yes and a no.  According to the answers, the information is clear to understand and I'm glad about that because the main issue of the topic is that it is quite complex to explain and paraphrase of course. The video seems to be appealing as well, and the the choice of music is appropriate as concluded by this survey. The results show that the most appreciated characteristic is the footage (visual content). I think that perhaps there were a few little problem

123) I placed the volume of all of my recorded audio clips on 400%, as one of my comments on the feedback was that the volume was quite low 124) I played the video from the begging to check if other editing was needed or not 125) Since I increased the volume of the audio clips I needed to increase the volme of the music as well- psychedelic 1. (22%)         - psychedelic 2. (20%)        - enigmatic 1. (22%) I then realized that the rest of the video was missing the music so I added 'enigmatic' sound track and put the volume on 25% 126) As progressing through the video I noticed some background noise in the audio so I reduced it to 0% 127) I skipped to the end of the video and deleted the excess music and then I went back and adjusted the volume of the interview clips as follows: Q.1 -158% Q.2 - 158% Q.3 - 141% 128) I added a black background to add the footage credits 129) Tried different text effects -standard, and mainl

96) I added question 2 of the interview (How can dress help us? ) before introducing the 7 most common symbols seen in our dreams + stretch adjustment to cut the part where I am asking the question. 97) Added the white background footage to write the question as a text and placed it before the answer (will do this for all the questions) 98) Used 'reveal' effect, removed- used 'zoom' effect (Baskerville font, 115 size, black color with border) 99) Stabilizing video movement + separation of audio and video 100) Lowered volume of the clips to the maximum + reduced background noise by 100% + audio effect 'small room' 101) Stretch adjustment of footage and audio + I decided to move the 2nd interview question after the part of the video that discusses Lucid Dreaming because it was interrupting a flow of explanation in the previous position. I thought this place would be more relevant. 102) I forgot to add the white background footage

61) Added footage 23 + increased both shadows and highlights + imported footage 24 and 25 62) Added footage 24 and 25 + music -1% 63) Recorded audio + stretch adjustment + music  64) Switched footage placement putting 25 before 24 (the woman falling before the woman being chased) 65) Increased shadows,  highlights and low saturation for the footage of the woman being chased + recorded audio and stretch adjustments 66) Continued recording another part of audio + added music -1% 67) Played the video from the beginning and adapted the first 6 audio clips to a 112% volume and the seventh on 126% 68)  I continued to edit the volume of the audio clips.         8th clip-126%        9th -112%       10th - 100%       11th- 100%       12th- 112% and I used the 6th icon on top of the screen to lower the background noises to 0% and put my voice with a 'flat' option within the same icon                13th- 100% tried to put the 'f

40) Added footage number 12 and 13, i replaced 12 with the white background as that would come later. Made stretch adjustments. 41) I placed the white background footage in between footage number 12 and 13 to add 'Lucid dreaming' title with centered title type (Baskerville font with border , black color) 42) Recorded audio part 6 and then accidentally deleted footage number 12 with its audio so I repeated the process 43) Add music-1%, increase highlights of footage 13, add footage number 14, add music again 44) Record audio, stretch adjustments, add music, increase shadows of footage number 14 45) Add footage number 15, music, record audio 46) Had a try at editing color effect by using saturation, color temperature,  highlights, shadows and contrast + white balancing and skin tone balancing. I decided to only alter the color temperature by lowering it 47) Imported and added footage number 16, increased shadows to the max and sli

Continuation.... 18) Added footage number 10 (illustration of brain) and added title (right angle superior type). 19) Title -Pre frontal cortex  Font: Baskerville, with bold and border   Color:white 20) Made stretch adjustments 'Pre frontal title = 3.0 seconds long + added a second text to the same illustration footage called 'Limbic system' (lower third type) 21) Placement and stretch adjustments 'pre frontal cortex' = 2,0 seconds long and 'limbic system' =2.2 seconds 22) Added third text to same footage- Occipital lobe (lower third expand effect)  font: Baskerville with bold and border    Colour: white  23) Changed text effect from lower third expand to inferior 24) Recorded audio part 4/ deleted and recorded a second time 25) The footage wasn't long enough to match the audio so I placed the same illustration twice one after another. I then moved the titles based on when I mentioned them in the

All About Me!

In this blogpost, I will answer a few questions in relation to the study/career aspect of my life. These question might as well help me understand what I want to achieve in life. 1. Why did you choose to study your subject area? At first, I was very confused on what I wanted to do in life. There were many subjects I was interested in, such as Fashion, Languages and Criminology. I decided to study Media because nowadays with the spread of technology, Media is a fundamental part of everyone's daily life, especially my life. I thought carefully and I realized that by studying Media (journalism) I could still take part in fashion by writing about it. On the other hand, I didn't want to limit my options on Journalism only, so I chose Media and Communication with Mandarin. In this way, I can study a new language in addition to media and hopefully become a fashion journalist. 2. Why did you choose this University? I chose De Montfort University because the ranking of Art st

Software Research

The  digital software I chose to use for my project is I Movie. After a couple of inconveniences, iMovie seemed to be the best option for my video because it is easy, it has enough good tools to use and it includes many types title effects which were very important for my type of project. I alreday used iMovie in other projects before so it was quite simple to manage, however there were some tools which I wasn't sure of I  used the internet to find the correct terms regarding the color tools so that I could explain the process properly and accurately. This screenshot was made from the Apple website and it illustrates the various terms that I used throughout the editing.  Apple Inc. As mentioned before, iMovie has many title/text effects- 48 in total, I used about 6 different types or title effects maybe even more. There were also a good amount of font types. Transitions are also very popular in iMovie -24 transitions. I didn't use t

1.   Audio script:        This is how I arranged the information in the audio. I wrote the information in the order I wanted to present it and through many tries I recorded it. I decided begin by introducing the subject in a form of of  a 'hook' to attract the viewers. Then I discussed how dreams occur (the process). Thirdly, I presented different types of sleep and the last part consists of the interpretations of symbols seen in dreams. I didn't end in a conclusion because there is no conclusion really to this phenomena. I tried to use everyday language and simple vocabulary because the audio must be understood by its audience otherwise the viewers lose interest, but the topic itself consists of intricate words processes and theories so it was quite hard. I based my research on Vsauce for the way of speaking because I think his videos have an interesting narrative.   1-          2-   3.  4. 2. Creation & Editing of Video: A. Footage:

Target Audience Reserach

Image
I had a look at user habits of Youtube videos to see if my video could be successful among the target audience. -my target audience would be teenagers and young adults from 16 to 22 years old. According to Minimatters (2014), people in 2014 used to stream videos of minimum 42 seconds and maximum 9 minutes. The average time length would be around 4 minutes. This means that people tend to prefer short videos, as long videos may lose the audiences' attention. (The shorter the better) Business 2 Community (2014) reports the same argument by showing this graph. BUSINESS 2 COMMUNITY (2014)  In 2018,  people seem to have increased the time they spent on Youtube.  Statistic (2018) shows the video length based on the category of the video. My video would be part of Entertainment or Informative (other), so the average length would be from around 9 to 12 minutes. Statista (2018) In addition, Techsmith (2018) illustrates that the people prefer
