All About Me!
In this blogpost, I will answer a few questions in relation to the study/career aspect of my life.
These question might as well help me understand what I want to achieve in life.
1. Why did you choose to study your subject area?
At first, I was very confused on what I wanted to do in life. There were many subjects I was interested in, such as Fashion, Languages and Criminology. I decided to study Media because nowadays with the spread of technology, Media is a fundamental part of everyone's daily life, especially my life. I thought carefully and I realized that by studying Media (journalism) I could still take part in fashion by writing about it. On the other hand, I didn't want to limit my options on Journalism only, so I chose Media and Communication with Mandarin. In this way, I can study a new language in addition to media and hopefully become a fashion journalist.
2. Why did you choose this University?
I chose De Montfort University because the ranking of Art studies was pretty good, and the price was accessible. I already had friends attending this university and they had positive thoughts on both the University and the city of Leicester itself.
3. What do you think you will gain from studying here?
From what I have experienced so far, DMU seems to be a very practical university. All of my modules have more practical work than traditional lectures. I think that it is always better to learn how to do something instead of learning about it because in this way you actually understand about the topic. If I think about journalism, it is a practical job that requires good writing and I believe that DMU can help me with this, because I am only in my foundation year and I have already learned alot on the subject.
4. How do you think a degree will help you find employment?
I think that nowadays, having a degree is essential because the majority of high skilled jobs require at least a Bachelor degree and the high status of British Universities can present more advantages than universities from other countries.
5. What else will you do while you are here in preparation for finding work at the end of your course?
Well, I am planning on taking a placement year and intern for a media institution. Before online learning, I attended a meeting with my faculty leader where he lectured us on the advantages of placement years. According to the meeting, DMU offer you the opportunity to intern for BBC which would be an amazing experience in my opinion and I am looking forward to achieving this goal. I might as well join a few societies that can help me share ideas and learn from people that might already be a long way into their studies.
6. Who is your inspiration in life and why?
Chiara Ferrigni is probably the only inspiration I can think of right now. She inspires me because her determination and extrovert personality made her one most influential fashion icons in the world. She started of from a simple blog account and made her way to the top in the fashion world.
7. How do you see yourself in 10 years time?
I see myself living in one of the fashion capitals of the world- Paris, Milan or New York- attending the most renowned fashion shows and interviewing the most acclaimed models and fashion icons. Perhaps in New York, because I'm from Milan and I've visited Paris and the 2 cities resemble each other very much. Plus, there is no city like New York!
These question might as well help me understand what I want to achieve in life.
