Initial Ideas on Major Project (Milanote)

Image
For my initial ideas regarding the Major Project, I have created a Milanote board that can display my ideas. My major project will be a feature news article discussing media communication during a crisis. The article's title will be "Media and Disasters: enhancing panic or preventing it?" In my article I will explain how the media communicates a crisis, the language and strategies used to communicate to the audience and I will also talk about fake news and the impact they have on society. I have researched some information on how to structure a feature news article and I have learned that providing some quotes or ideas taken from an interview that I have made will help support my article by making it more professional. I have decided to interview my media tutor for this year, her name is Bettina Downing. It is a good idea to take a photograph of the interview to add to my website so I can practice some software editing.  I was thinking of using Lightroom by adobe f

Website Research

Image
In this new blog post I will discuss the research I have done on three websites. First two relating to my continuation route which is media and communication (can be classified as Journalism), and the third relating to fashion brand. The picture below is the home page of the first website I am going to talk about. This website is about a journalist, photographer and copywriter, named Matt Hussey. I like this home page because i find it neat and well organized. The multiple sections are found on the top and I believe they are clearly displayed.  The 'About' page and the rest of the pages are found by scrolling down. This page includes other social media platforms on which you can find his profiles and work. This is a very nice idea because it gives access to a wide range of information about him. The picture below shows the section regarding his published articles. In my opinion, this section should have been divided in folder categories arrang

Researching Feature News Articles (Major Project)

Image
In order to learn more about feature news articles, I have chosen to research feature news articles through The Guardian newspaper because it offers many diverse topics from which I can gain a good understanding to write my own article.  I have researched 2  different articles, beginning with the reintroduction of wolves in the National Park of Yellowstone.      Jim Peaco/National Park Service, Rose Creek Pen, (1996) The article started with a sentence that introduced the main idea possibly trying to catch the reader's attention, followed by a narrative. A narrative is recounted story, so this feature news article is telling the story of how wolves where in reintroduced in Yellowstone and what impacts this had on the ecosystem. The body of the article starts from the very beginning, by explaining what happened to the wolves back in 1870 and why it happened. There are many facts throughout the body, in addition to quotes used from people that were interviewed for this art

Final Reflection on Advertisement

Image
This task was difficult to create and it took a lot of time, but i think that i have explained the process thoroughly and clearly. I have learned to put effort on detail and planning which is very important. I lacked some initial research but I have updated my post. The desert image could have been selected differently because it lacks light and sensation of a dry and burnt land. We tried to insert a better image but it was difficult to blend it with the top one. I think the slogan should have been more colorful or with more detail to attract the reader's eye. The background needed some changing too because the colour does not reach out to the audience, perhaps a bright blue color would have been better.  I am far from being perfect, however I believe this was the best task done in the first attempt. The more I practice the more I will improve.

Advertisement on Global Warming

Image
Global warming is a big issue nowadays  the is affecting the whole world. Australia is suffering from extremely hot and dry  weather  that has resulted in devastating bushfires. These bushfires have already scorched millions of acres and slaughtered an estimated half a billion animals in the country (Law, 2020).   This example was provided to emphasize on the importance of climate change and the terrible effects it is causing to our planet. Process of creating the advert: - Adobe Photoshop CC was the software used to create the advert   New document -width (8.267) -height (11.962) change background color add vignette - use the elliptical marquee tool, create a selection,  feather the selection (  select > modify > feather), feather 250 px,  invert selection (select > inverse)  Add a curves adjustment layer (layer > new adjustment layers > curves) Adjust the curves to control the vignette effect                     Download an hour glass f

Initial Ideas for advertisement

Image
For our new assignment, Rea and I are supposed to design an advertisement. We thought about creating an advertisement about global warming that will look like this: As illustrated, the focus of the advertisement is an hour glass that will show a beautiful snowy image on the top half while the bottom half will show a very hot and dry desert. The slogan will be "There is no plant b"  and we will create an NGO called "Earth Protection Protocol"  I will discuss the font selection and layout, along with the process of creation in my next post. Research:                                             Global Warming By Sabir Nazar (2019) This picture was made by Sabir Nazar:; Nazar is a Pakistani painter and and editorial cartoonist that has worked for many NGO's such as HRCP Pakistan, Action Aid, OXFAM and UNICEF.  His cartoons are regularly published Express Tribune, which is affiliated to the International New York Times. Sequential photography with partner

Image
My partner and I were given an assignment of creating a set of sequential images as classwork and this is what we came up with We made this simple but creative task using a cup, water and a tea bag. We took pictures showing every change of color the water went through as the tea dissolved inside it. You can see the tea bag changing color as well from white to yellowish. The water slowly changed from being transparent or see-through to dull. We used my IPhone to shoot the photos and an app called Pica Art to create the collage. No editing was made except cropping the images. This was our first time to create sequential photos so we kept it simple, but many things could have been improved such as; keeping an equal distance from the camera to the cup in all pictures and shooting from the same angle. We should have added some editing and perhaps shoot a set of images with a better quality because these look somehow blurred.

Blog Buddy

Image
I would like to introduce a new friend I just met, his name is Andrei and he is from Moscow. This is his second time enrolling in DMU since he studied English last year. He is 22 years old and  his progression route will be Film making. He enjoys watching movies and playing games on the computer. He chose Film Studies because he wishes to work in the Film industry, and is greatly inspired by Steven Spielberg. My blog buddy and I will help each other with our blog posts, giving each other feedback on what we can improve.                                                                                                                       https://andreiobraztsov.blogspot.com

Sequential photography made by me (individually)

Image
My initial ideas on this task were to create a set of sequential images that had a deeper meaning compared to the set we created as classwork. I came up with the idea to shoot a set of sequential images whilst giving money to a man in need. I decided to place the action of giving the money halfway through the images because I wanted to create a sort of narrative within the images. In this way, I was able to show the difference in the man's expression before having the money and after having the money. As you can see below, I drew a storyboard sketch to demonstrate my initial idea. Storyboard sketch: Process of Editing: I took the pictures with my phone and I changed the original color to a black&white filter using my camera settings.  Then, I edited the brightness of each photo to a higher level still using the camera settings on my phone.                                                                               I chose the pictures that

Sequential Photography by Duane Michals

Image
I have researched sequential photography by Duane Michals in order to help me understand the details and key elements used in creating sequential photography. I chose two kinds of images that I found very interesting Duane Michals (1998),  Dr. Heisenberg's Magic Mirror of Uncertainty This set of sequential imagery taken by Duane Michals is called Dr. Heisenberg's Magic Mirror of Uncertainty. In every photo the model is reflected in a different way by the mirror. The reflection shown by the mirror varies in response to the way she looks at it, and this is described as uncertainty. All of the photographs are distorted in an unnatural way, showing two faces or no face at all. Michals was trying to illustrate Heisenberg's Principle of Uncertainty, and therefore says that uncertainty permits the possibility of everything and anything. I find this set of pictures very eye-catching because the various reflections of the woman in the mirror attracted my attention fro

Welcome Post!

Image
Hello everyone and welcome to Gigi's News! My name is Angy but my friends call me Gigi. I'm a student at DMU and I decided to make this blog to learn more about Media. My progression route will be Media and Communication and I hope this blog might give me some experience in this field. The first thing i would like to talk about is the documentary on Chiara Ferragni's life, called Chiara Ferragni - Unposted. I find it very inspiring how this woman built up her career step by step and became one of the world's biggest fashion influencer. The documentary shows Chiara's achievements and personal life from her own perspective and from the perspective of the people close to her.  It also shows how her passion for fashion turned her from a young woman with motivation to a strong digital entrepreneur. She started off with a small blog in 2009 and ended up to have millions of followers on social media. Throughout the documentary she emphasizes on the importance of
