Major project draft (feature article)

  •  This is the first draft I wrote for my feature news article exploring how the media communicates a disaster to its audience 


  • I will receive feedback from my media tutor on how to improve the work for the final piece 

  • Reflection: At first I thought that it would be hard for me to reach 1000 words, but I found it surprisingly easy because the topic is vast and there are is much to talk about. The topic is also interesting so I enjoyed researching it and writing it. I tried to put the interview and other sources in a sort of narrative order so the reader would not be confused, however I might have to work on that. I also have to work on my word choice and language because it is formal and makes the writing appear like an essay rather than a feature article. I tried to be as creative as possible and overall I think this article sounds interesting.

I have researched sequential photography by Duane Michals in order to help me understand the details and key elements used in creating sequential photography. I chose two kinds of images that I found very interesting Duane Michals (1998),  Dr. Heisenberg's Magic Mirror of Uncertainty This set of sequential imagery taken by Duane Michals is called Dr. Heisenberg's Magic Mirror of Uncertainty. In every photo the model is reflected in a different way by the mirror. The reflection shown by the mirror varies in response to the way she looks at it, and this is described as uncertainty. All of the photographs are distorted in an unnatural way, showing two faces or no face at all. Michals was trying to illustrate Heisenberg's Principle of Uncertainty, and therefore says that uncertainty permits the possibility of everything and anything. Welcome to my last term as a foundation student at DMU. In a few months I will be a year 1 student studying media and communication! As stated before, my dream would be to become a fashion journalist and Anna Wintour (editor of Vogue) is a great inspiration as she is one of the most successful woman in the field. Even though Anna was already born into a wealthy family and with her father as a journalist, she   managed to make her way to the top in the fashion world which inspires me greatly. A few weeks back I saw the movie 'The Devil Wears Prada'. In the movie, the chief editor of a prestigious magazine interpreted by Meryl Streep is described as a ruthless woman. Meryl Streep admits that her interpretation of the role was drawn by Anna Wintour. UX Feedback on Website

Based on the UX Feedback, the majority of my classmates think that the layout of my website is appealing and clear to navigate. I'm glad because I think that these are the most important functions. Some said that the introduction paragraph to the major project should have more information but the article itself holds a lot of information, so I think the introduction should just give the main idea. Perhaps, I will explain why I chose this topic on a final reflection blog post.  All of my peers think that the font, images and contact form are appropriate. 28% say that my home page does not reflect my progression route but 71% say it does. I think there are many elements suggesting a website belonging to a journalist. For example,  the words 'Aspiring Journalist', the choice of images showing magazines, documents and a computer and also the button 'view my articles'.
