Style of writing for intended audience

Image
As my article will reflect the writing style seen in Vogue magazine, I have looked into the writing style presented by articles discussing sustainability within Vogue. Barboni-Hallik (2020) Based on my research, I have identified a common characteristic of imperative language within Vogue. According to König (2006) an imperative use of language gives significants to the subject and creates a sense of urgency. In the article "Could COVID-19 Usher in a New Era of Responsibility in Fashion? An Urgent Opportunity for Sustainability and Ethics", Barboni- Hallik (2020) uses the words "brands must..". This is an example of a strong and firm phrase that implies an order. Other examples are "new era of community and personal responsibility is upon us" and "it’s time for a new social and environmental contract". She is reinforcing the need for more sustainable methods throughout the article which is suggested to be her opinion and is trying t...

Interview Questions

My interviewee will be Benedetta Boroli, the creator of Benedetta Boroli show brand based in Milan. I have researched some information about her to have some extra knowledge on her work prior to my interview. Her brand is a made in Italy brand with a craftsmanship that aims to be simple but at the same time elegant. The brand uses traditional material mixed with modern and technologic materials (Benedetta Boroli, 2020). Her shoes are designed for "women who want to feel feminine without loosing comfort" (Benedetta Boroli, 2020).  On Benedetta Boroli's brand website I have found out that the packaging for her SS20 collection will be entirely sustainable. According to Benedetta Boroli (2020) the brand is recognized for using materials that protect our environment by The International Forest Stewardship Council. Questions: 1.  What is your brand's approach towards sustainability? 2. Have sustainable materials already been used in your products? (if yes) what are ...

Article focus

Image
I have chosen to focus on the topic of sustainability and overproduction and how Covid-19 has impacted this. First of  all the headline should be more focused so will add the word sustainability in it... Fashion sustainability in 2020: T he changes bound to Covid-19 , in this was my readers know the focus will be on sustainability and not on other general impacts. I have read 3 different articles that discuss the issue of sustainability during this pandemic era and all three point out that the pandemic has left a significant number of stock unsold stock due to lockdowns. This makes clear how the fashion industry is over producing items which have consequences on our environment. The United Nation Environment Programme  (2018) as cited by Huet (2020), states that the fashion industry is responsible for 10 % of carbon emissions which is equivalent to more than the carbon emissions formed by flights and shipping combined and that fast fashion accounts for a larg...

An overview and further development/ research of project idea

Image
I have come up with a few aspects that could help me generate the focus of my article. The main idea of the article would be the changes in fashion caused by Covid-19. I have thought about the possible  headline which is seen below, together with the issues that will be discussed.  1. The awareness of excess waste and need of sustainability that Covid has highlighted- rethinking industry, values and waste 2. Changed formats of fashion shows and difference in fashion collection- combination of seasons and and gender  3. Economic impact on garment workers and retailers + less consumer spending I have read these 4 sources below that have helped me consider these factors  Intended audience:  Being a feature regarding fashion, I  though that Vogue's audience might be my intended audience. However according to an analysis on Vogue found on UKEssays (2018), the audience represent wealthy women that want to know the latest trends and n...

Set Essay

I have chosen to work on the Set Question n.5 "Discuss and critically analyse the newspaper and other media coverage on Barack Obama’s election victory 5th November 2008 in America." I decided to select this topic because it involved the concept of media coverage and since my progression route is Media & Communication I thought it would be the most relevant out of all the questions. I started off by reading some background information about the election, being 6 at the time, I  knew little about the election. After some reading, I researched American newspaper articles that were dated 5th of November 2008 (the day after Obama's victory). These included the Washington Post amongst others. 2 out of the newspapers I analyzed used words of enthusiasm, hyperbole and sensationalism, which appeared as a positive aspect. The majority also described the event as a change for the US society due to Obama's ethnic background. This gave me an idea on how to approach ...

The Importance of Research..

Research is defined by Western Sydney University, as the creation of new knowledge and/or the use of existing knowledge in a new and creative way so as to generate new concepts, methodologies and understandings. This could include synthesis and analysis of previous research to the extent that it leads to new and creative outcomes (Western Sydney University, 2020). Research is essential in almost every field, such as economy, medicine and even art. Research can expand your knowledge and help you apply this knowledge on practical work. Although the research process varies depending on the subject, all research aims to inform, create and develop ideas. In medicine for example, research is vital to discover and create treatments and this is derived from existing concepts of biology or chemistry. Art, on the other hand, might look at the work of other artists to learn the methodologies.  In academic research, it is important to gather as many sources as possible to analyze diffe...

Critical Thinking Task

Image
In this blogpost I am testing out my Critical Thinking skills- let's see if this I can critically analyze information!  1- This is a simple assertion because it there is no evidence, it is biased and "Rhetoric" - emotional steers (based on the critical thinking document) and this might not be true through another person's point of view. 2- Simple assertion (same reason) 3- Evidence based because the is a depth number (data) and can be tested though different sources and making a comparison  4- simple assertion can be a rhetoric move - designed to sway (based on the critical thinking document  5- Evidence based, again there is data (statistic) can be tested through medicine practices  6- Can be tested through measuring the string length, however not all Yo-Yo's must be the same length. I think there can be various lengths, so this might be an assertion 7- assertion because it is too vague, no population or location details, no expla...
