Initial research on other videos/videomakers
As I discussed before, the inspiration of making a video explaining the nature of dreams came from an episode of the Netflix series 'The Mind Explained'. Since this video is part of a Netflix series it is quite elaborate and it's 20 minutes long. Therefore, I have looked at other videos on youtube that last about 5 to 6 minutes and are within my capacities of producing.
The video you see below is part of Youtube brand called Vsauce created by Michael Stevens.
This channel includes videos of Science and Psychology amongst other topics. This video can be a good reference for my project because there are some features that I can think of and decide if i want to use them or not.
Video no.1
- The video is mainly based on Michael's presence explaining and analyzing dreams. I will not be part of the dream as a figure, I will be the voice.
- This video has music/sound in background which I think is very important because the sound effects in any type of video or film establish an atmosphere and feeling. I will definitely include a background sound. I found a website that let me use free music and has many options to choose from. I still have to consider other options but as a first thought I believed this would fit well.
3. Another feature is the use of inserting text when a terminology is presented, which I also think is important and I will include. This can help the audience identify terms and complex vocabulary associated with Psychology
Video no.2
This is another video that can help me build my own video if we consider adding my own shots. In this video there is a scene of a man sleeping which can be easily achieved. Less easier shots are of the experts on the subjects (professors). I could, however take shots of some friends recounting their weirdest dreams (1 meter distance) also shown in this video as the opening scene.
- The tone used between the 2 videos is clearly different. I would like to create my video with the tone of the first video, more engaging and exciting.
- I will use diagrams and illustrative images of the brain (present in both videos)

Some good initial research here. The BBC has an extensive sound effect library which you can download sound effects from if that is something you would like to include in the video. As it is more difficult to get an actual interview shot, you might want to consider recording a video call on your laptop. This would be a good way of working around this problem and is often used in documentaries. A good example to look at would be the Netflix documentary 'Icarus' in which they have done this various times.
